Feature:

MPEG-2 Based Encoding

JVC is one of the original developers of the MPEG-2 compression system. MPEG-2 is an interframe encoding system that combines multiple frames of digital picture data into a group of pictures (GOP). It then removes redundant information from the GOP resulting in far greater efficiency than with intraframe systems, such as DV, that compress every frame separately. JVC pioneered high definition MPEG-2 recording with its D-VHS format used by major motion picture studios for screening and playback of dailies. JVC's advanced MPEG-2 codecs are used by major television networks and satellite providers. In the GY-HD250U JVC has utilized a highly efficient MPEG-2 codec that compresses the full HD resolution without downsizing the image.
• 14-Bit Analog to Digital Converter
The new 14-bit A/D converter produces higher quality images, producing more accurate levels of color, shadow and highlights.
• 24-Frame Cine-Style Capture and Recording
Twenty-four frames per second progressive acquisition produces recorded images that have a more polished, film-like appearance than typical interlaced video cameras. Virtually all high end digital cinematography cameras utilize the 24P system. The GY-HD250U uses three 1/3" native high definition CCDs that produce a more refined HD look without scaling. Since the native 24-frame material is recorded to tape, it is possible to transfer the recordings to film without frame rate conversion. Time code is recorded in the 24P mode, so recordings made with the GY-HD250U can be edited with film based and high end digital systems with ease.
• 60-Frame Full Progressive Recording
Until now the preeminent capture technique for broadcast sports, 720p/60, has not been available in the HDV format. The GY-HD250U ushers in a new era of HDV recording, providing users with the ultimate sports and news recording tool. Capture full-frame goodness 60 times per second for glass-smooth action shots.
• PAL-Compatible
The GY-HD250U can output both 25p and 50p for PAL compatible recording. This added multi-regional flexibility makes the camera highly versatile in a wide variety of applications.
• Increased Audio Control
The camera features an audio limiter in manual mode as well as a 13-segment audio level meter. The camera's full auto mode (FAS) can be very helpful in situations such as news gathering, where time management is critical. The extra audio controls give operators the highest level of flexibility while shooting in hostile conditions.
• Extensive User-Adjustable Video Looks
Creating a true cinematic look involves more than just recording at 24 frames per second. The camera's gamma, detail and black levels can be adjusted to the user's preference. When combined with the correct lens filters and lighting techniques, film-like performance can be obtained that's tailored to the mood of the scene. There is even a skin tone detection feature that automatically reduces the amount of enhancement in facial areas so that your subjects will not have a wrinkled, television-like appearance. All custom settings can be stored on an inexpensive SD memory card and transferred to another camera if desired.
• Output Choices
The user can chose between letterbox, squeeze and sidecut when outputting through the composite connection. The camera can also output 1080i/60 from any 720p/60 recorded signal through its component connection in real time!
• Uncompressed HD-SDI
The GY-HD250U has all the connectors that professionals have been missing in other low-cost HDTV camcorders. For the ultimate in video transfers, this camera has an uncompressed HD-SDI connector. The serial digital BNC connector provides unparalleled control and image clarity, completely bypassing HDV compression.
• Time Code
The camera is equipped with true SMPTE time code input and output. Time code from the camcorder can be sent to other recording devices (cameras, VTRs) so they are all recording with the same clock.
• Genlock Synchronization
Multi-camera shoots with the GY-HD250U is no problem since the camcorder has Genlock sync. This feature allows many devices including cameras, VTRs and switchers to synchronize. The combined ability between Genlock and the GY-HD250U's unique optional characteristics make the camera ideal for small, budget conscious studios.
