Nopal contains an abundance of potent antioxidants (vitamin C, beta-carotene, polyphenols, betalains, glycoproteins, sterols) that help to protect muscle tissue (also help protect brain, joints, heart) from free radical damage during exercise, dramatically improving performance, and shortening recovery times. These antioxidants also help to reduce overall inflammation in the body.
Heat Shock Proteins (HSPs) are proteins synthesized by the body in response to physical stress and heat. They allow the body to better adapt to physical extremes. HSPs usually form in about 2 to 3 hours from physical stress. Nopal can reduce this time to 10 to 15 minutes, allowing for much greater resistance to stress, more endurance, more stamina, and faster recovery.
Nopal cactus reduces insulin resistance in muscle tissue.* Since insulin facilitates delivery of both glucose and amino acids to muscle tissue, improved insulin sensitivity allows for better energy levels in muscles, more endurance, more protein synthesis in muscles, and shortened recovery times.
Supports pancreas health,* as demonstrated by increased insulin production when nopal is consumed regularly. Insulin is the primary anabolic hormone that drives muscle protein synthesis and glycogen fuel storage in muscles and liver. Healthy pancreas and insulin systems mean better muscle growth and endurance and faster recovery.*
High amount of pectin and unique, mucilaginous fiber in nopal cactus tends to timed release foods into the bloodstream. This serves to stabilize blood sugar, and thereby reduce cortisol secretion during exercise. Less cortisol during exercise means less protein degradation in muscles, better endurance, shorter recovery, and less immune suppression
