Alongside the diversity of uses offered by the various components of the Coconut Palm -trunk for furniture, leaves to weave mats- the oil, which is extracted from the seed pulp, is commonly used in the food and cosmetic industries, it forms an ivory white solid below temperatures of 25 o C.

The prime constituent of coconut oil is a substance called cocoin. Cocoin is composed of a variety of glycerides, of which the majority contain the fatty acid lauric acid. Other fatty acids being present are caproic, caprylic, linoleic, myristic, oleic, palmitic, stearic and linoloic acids which act together in preventing wrinkle formation and and other skin aging processes.

Lauric acid can easily penetrate the cheratin structure of the hair stem, thanks to the short linear chain of lauric acid and helps in preserving the hair from degenerative processes.

Coconut oil has rehydrating, emollient and elasticizing properties which counters the formation of wrinkles and strengthens the hair. This can be exemplified by the Polynesian women: even though they are exposed to the damaging effects of strong sun and winds, they are famous for their beautiful hair and skin which is partly due to their frequent use of coconut oil.

Dr Jackson’s coconut melt only uses 100% organic coconut oil, its solid at room temperature but suprisingly melts on touch ideal as an all over everything balm, lip balm or cuticle oil.
