How to test real silk ?
There is a lot of artificial silk out there being sold at real silk prices.Protect yourself from being suckered the next time you're looking to buy a set of real silk sheets or a real silk cheongsam by remembering this simple test
The Burn Test
Pull out a loose thread from the silk product you're interested in. Now burn it.
What Should Happen
The thread should simply ball up and turn to ash when lit.
The burning silk should smell like burning hair. (Both substances mainly consist of a fibrous protein – fibroin in the case of silk and keratin in the case of hair.)
The ash should be black and crispy/brittle.
As soon as the flame is removed, the thread should do nothing more (no further burning).
What Should Not Happen: Dead Giveaways to Artificial Silk
The thread should not melt/bubble/drip when lit.
The burning silk should not smell like burning paper. (Rayon is a popular silk substitute, and like paper, mostly consists of cellulose.)
The ash should not be soft and chalky.
The thread should not continue to burn after the flame is removed.

Stains - How to spot clean silk:
Use a product such as Silk Spot Out™ to remove stains when cleaning silk. Food and beverages can leave stains if allowed to dry, so for best results treat them right away.
How to Dry Silk:
The heat from a dryer is hard on silk, so if you use your dryer, we recommend the "air fluff" (no heat) setting. Be sure to remove it promptly!
If your dryer does not have an air-only setting, dry it the natural way: Lightly squeeze (do not wring), then roll the item in a towel and lay flat to dry.
How to iron silk:
Press your silk inside out with a warm iron when needed.
As with everything else, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Silk will last a long time if given the proper care!
