If you turn ON after adding pressure, mercury may run to the glass rapidly and may eruct from the top. Also, if you continue adding pressure with OFF condition, mercury may leak.

If you leave the handle ON condition or OFF without leaning, mercury remains in the glass and glass gets dirty easily, and cause lack of mercury.

If you see the gap in the mercury, please lean the case 45 ° and shake softly. The gap would be disappeared.

Please keep this after confirming the mercury does not remain on the bottom of the glass and handle turned to OFF.
