We love the internet of things, home automation and the overall concept of the smart home – but we also understand that for most people, it is a large chasm to jump. This understanding has been one of the guiding forces in the design of the Qube smartbulb. We wanted to take one commonly used household item and make it smart, easy to use and accessible to everyone. We have achieved this with Qube.

What makes Qube different?

Qube is unique in 3 aspects:

1. It is designed for home automation: Qube senses the user entering the room with their phone, tablet or any other personal identifiable Bluetooth device (e.g. Fitbit/Jawbone/Shine) and turns on the lights to the user's optimal preference when they are around. Unlike the typical smart bulbs in the market, Qube does not require the user to manually switch on the lights or lighting moods at home from the phone app. 

2. It is affordable.

3. It does not need an external hub. A typical smart bulb in the market requires users to purchase an external hub to control multiple light bulbs and this adds costs. Qube does not need an external hub as it is designed to act as a hub by itself.

The Tech - How does it work?

Every Qube has an in-built Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Smart 4.0 Chip –  making it constantly connected. This also allows all Qube bulbs to communicate with one another, hence acting as a hub itself while serving its primary purpose of smart illumination. This feature is unique to Qube. No other Wi-Fi + Bluetooth Low Energy smart bulb in the market is able to do so without the consumer purchasing an external hub.The built-in Wi-Fi allows maximum connection stability and range.The combination of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips within Qube also allows it to sense users within the home via our Qube Sense™ technology and carry out meaningful automations.

How does it save energy and the earth?

How do I set it up?

Similar to any normal LED Bulb, you can plug Qube into a compatible LED socket, and it will work perfectly. You can then download our app on Apple Store or Google Play Store to control it on your smartphone.

How fast does Qube work?

Qube is tested to have a maximum latency of 0.5s, the fastest in the market. It is tested to have 95% efficiency in transmitting light commands and messages. This is only possible because Qube offers both Wi-Fi and BLE, which let you access your bulbs from anywhere, at any time.

How can we make it so affordable?

This goes back to Qube’s experience. Having had years of experience in sourcing and manufacturing, we can keep cost low based on volume. Qube will focus its initial sales strategy direct to consumers online.  By doing so, there is no need to build in retail margins which add substantially to the purchase cost. We pass the savings directly to you so that your money is well-spent when making your home smart. 

How many Qube bulbs do we support in one household?

Our prototype system was tested with 20 smart-bulbs connected to the Wi-Fi router and has 100% efficiency due to the multi-layered mesh connection. Though 20 smart-bulbs should easily be enough for your home, we will update you again when our mass manufactured bulbs reach our warehouse. We have planned for a to support 100 Smart Bulbs at a 0.5s latency.

How do I integrate to my existing Home Automation?

We have document our API well, and it should be ready for release sometime later in 2016 for existing home automation developers to develop on our system. However, during our delivery, we have planned for IFTTT compatibility which will allow our Smart Sense™ feature to work with your existing home-automation products. For instance, when a Qube light in the kitchen detects that I am near (3 metres) the coffee maker, the coffee maker can start a cup of coffee.
