Established 1920: Yves Michaud, an engineer & beekeeper, founded the company Famille Michaud Apiculteurs. Moving his hives according to seasons and crops, Yves Michaud became the precursor of bee transhumance and set up various new beekeeping techniques.Famille Michaud Apiculteurs is an independent family company set up in 1920 and located in the Pyrenées-Atlantiques, France.

Over the years, Famille Michaud Apiculteurs has combined tradition and modernity to become the European leader in honey and natural sweeteners (maple and agave syrups).

Unparalleled Non Polluting Environment:
France is divided into 22 regions and every one produces honey. France has one of the oldest and best managed honey industries in the world.

Famille Michaud Apiculteurs opted for ‘Made in France’ products. Its know-how relies on the diversity and quality of French honeys, praised by many in France or abroad. Their tastes, colors, textures remain unequalled. Everything depends on their floral origins (lavender, heather, acacia, etc.) and on the beekeeping techniques used. In France, Famille Michaud Apiculteurs works in partnership with over 500 beekeepers. All its products are put into jars at its factory in Gan, South-western France, where it employs more than 200 employees.

Yves Michaud, who founded the company in 1920, initiated a dynamic of innovation. As a pioneer of modern beekeeping, he was the first in France to move his hives to summer pastures following the seasons (‘transhumance’), hence collecting different honey types. Since then, Famille Michaud Apiculteurs has been developing its own processes to put honey into jars while preserving its nutritional and taste properties. It also set up in 1973 the first company laboratory in the world for honey analyses. The lab guarantees the purity and freshness of all the honeys supplied by Famille Michaud Apiculteurs, as well as their floral and geographical origin.

The Lune de Miel® brand was created. Today it is the leading brand in France, with a 32% market share. Lune de Miel® (meaning 'honeymoon' in French) is the first honey brand distributed in the world, boasting an international presence in 59 countries. It sells about 28 million honey jars every year.

Lune de Miel® Mono Floral Finest Selection Range

What is Monofloral honey?

It is a type of honey which is highly valued because it has a distinctive flavor or other attribute due to its being predominantly from the nectar of one plant species.

Monofloral honeys are also kept in separate tanks and labeled separately and command a more premium price. All the honeys we sell are top quality and always 100% pure and natural products.

Their taste depends on the foraged flower(s). Monofloral honeys (acacia, orange blossom, clover, etc. are more expensive because they are scarcer than polyfloral honeys (multi-flower…).

Do you know? A 1 kg honey jar thus represents about 200 days’ work and a distance of 40.000 km buzzing around 800.000 flowers for a single forager bee!

More About Lavender Honey :

Connoisseurs consider gourmet lavender honey to be the best honey in the world. It has an aromatic & floral taste and contains calming properties. Lavender honey is unmatched in richness and exquisite in flavor.

The honey is viscous due to the presence of naturally occurring beeswax and pollen. It is creamy and thick with a soothing aromatic smell and sweet flavour.

It helps to relieve respiratory tract infections, migraines, headaches & aid wound healing and is highly recommended as a spread for pastries or as a sweetener for hot drinks.

Consistency of honey

When just produced by bees, all honeys have a liquid consistency, but many of them will crystallize. This natural status change will occur after 2 to 3 days, a few weeks or even a few months depending on their composition and environment.

The composition of honey influences its texture.

— Honey is made of various sugars, the two main being glucose and fructose. The higher the glucose content, the faster honey will crystallize. This fructose/glucose proportion varies according to the flowers foraged.

For example, Acacia honey contains more than 40% of fructose and less than 28% of glucose, which naturally allows it to keep its pouring consistency for more than a year. Contrarily, honeys such as clover, sunflower, etc. with higher glucose content will be thicker, and have a more or less smooth texture.

We Are Serious About Our Honey!
(so please don't just use price to compare on our honey!)

From the hive to the shelf, the characteristics and route of each batch of honeys are carefully recorded. Using accurate data management systems, total traceability of the honeys are ensured. Pollen analysis is rarely performed today but remain a practice for all Lune de Miel honeys. This analysis reveals the floral source, geographic origin of each honey. Each sample is examined and coded for quality tracking purposes
