The Polaroid XS100 Extreme Edition Waterproof Action Camera
Features
Overview: The Polaroid XS100 is a small action camera that can record Full HD video and 5 MP still images. The camera has a wide-angle lens with a wide viewing range of 170°. It comes with a self-adhesive helmet mount and a bicycle handlebar clamp mount. The camera has a waterproof housing that allows use as deep as 30 feet under water (IPX8). The supplied waterproof cover keeps water out of the rear operation panel (card slot, USB and HDMI jacks).
Video Recording: The XS100 records video in the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 video format with AAC audio. Full HD resolutions include 1080p (1920 x 1080/30 fps/16:9) and 960p (1280 x 960/30 fps/4:3). HD Resolutions include 720p (1280 x 720/16:9) at 60 fps (for slow motion playback) and 30 fps (for regular speed playback). You can switch between FHD and HD using the 2-way Video Resolution Switch.
Dual File Recording: When Full HD and HD videos are recorded, two files will be saved: one at the selected resolution, and another at 432 x 240 (16:9) or 320 x 240 (4:3), depending upon the aspect ratio of the full resolution video. The smaller file can be used for uploading to social media sites and for email.
Still Image Recording: In addition to video recording, the XS100 can record still images (JPEG) in 16MP (2592 x 1944), 5MP, 3MP, and VGA resolution. The camera will record single shots, Bursts of 10 frames per second, and Time Lapse photos with intervals of 5, 10, 30, and 60 seconds.
Auto Rotation: The XS100 has a built-in G-sensor, which can detect the camera's orientation. If you mount your camera at 90°, 180°, or 270° from the default position, the recorded view will be rotated to the same angle. This allows you to mount the camera at different angles without recording a rotated view. The video resolution is adjusted for 90° and 270° angled mounts: 1080p becomes 608 x 1088, 960p becomes 720 x 960, and 720p becomes 416 x 720. The Auto Rotation feature can be turned off in the General Menu, and does not apply to still photos.
Note: You should begin recording with the camera at the desired rotation. Auto Rotation does not change the angle during recording.
Camera Vibrations: Since the camera has no display, it will vibrate a number of times to indicate certain conditions. The camera will vibrate when battery power is low, when power is turned on or off, when recording starts and stops, and when the microSD card is full.
Power Requirements: The XS100 has a built-in, non-removable 3.7V 1200mAh Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery, which charges via USB in approximately 3 hours. Battery life is approximately 2.5 hours.
Camera Settings: To change the default settings, you must utilize the camera's built-in software. In the Video menu (visible on your computer's monitor), you can change the FHD and HD resolutions. In the Photo menu, you can change the photo resolution, photo mode, and the time lapse interval. In the General menu, you can change the TV type (NTSC/PAL), Auto Power Off (1-min/3-min/Off), Auto Image Rotation (On/Off), and set the Date and Time manually or sync the camera with your computer.
Software: The camera comes with built-in software, which can be downloaded to your computer when you connect the camera via USB. The built-in software is compatible with Windows 7, Vista, and XP (SP3). A Mac version of the software (OS X 10.4 and above) is available from the Polaroid website.
Mounting: The XS100 comes with multiple mounts. The Bicycle Mount can be used on a pole or handle bars from 0.75" to 1.4" in diameter. The Helmet Mount can be used with vented and non-vented helmets using the supplied long or short straps. Both mounts have a ball socket that will accommodate the straight or angled ball joints. The supplied Mount Lock attaches to the camera and locks into place on the ball joints. The ball joint system allows you to change the angle of the camera as desired. If either mount isn't practical (or for extra security), you can mount the camera using one of the included 3M adhesive pads. A security string is supplied to tether the camera to the Helmet or Bicycle Mount.
