The sleek, DSLR-inspired form factor is characterized by both a high-resolution 2.36m-dot electronic viewfinder as well as swiveling 3.0" 1.037m-dot rear touchscreen monitor, and built-in Wi-Fi permits wireless image sharing and remote camera control via a linked smartphone or tablet.

Additionally, the body is also weather-sealed for use in trying conditions.

Included with the camera body is the M.Zuiko ED 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 EZ lens, which offers a 24-100mm equivalent focal length range to cover wide-angle to short telephoto focal lengths. The powered Electric Zoom design, coupled with the quiet and smooth MSC focusing mechanism, makes this lens especially suitable for both stills and video recording, and the zoom ring can manually be moved forward to enable close-up shooting at magnifications up to 0.72x.

The optical design incorporates two aspherical elements, one double-sided aspherical element, one high-refractive index element, and one extra-low dispersion element; all of which combine to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations throughout the zoom range for increased clarity, sharpness, and color accuracy.
