How illuMask works

The red and blue light emitted from the illuMask works to kill the bacteria that causes acne, Propionibacterium acnes.

Acne starts with the build up of oil (sebum) which causes P. acnes to multiply. Pores in the skin become blocked with a combination of this bacteria, excess oil, and dead skin cells, causing an inflammation. The result is an acne breakout.

illuMask works to treat acne by killing P. acnes bacteria in the skin. Therapeutic red and blue light generated from the LEDs hit the skin, causing the light sensitive compounds contained in the P. acnes bacteria to absorb the light, generating a photochemical reaction, which kills the bacteria from the inside out.
