3-axis Photo IS is 3-axis image stabilization for still images
The first compact digital camera to be equipped with image stabilization that mechanically compensates for rotary shift as well as yaw and pitch. The SH-50 also uses the same drive mechanism as the Olympus compact system camera OM-D.
Hybrid 5-axis Movie IS, for movie image stabilization
When shooting movies, this function mechanically compensates for yaw and pitch, as well as rotary shift in the optical axis. It also electronically compensates for strong blurring and horizontal and vertical shifts. This function rivals that of video cameras, taking care of strong blurring that occurs when walking or jogging.
What are pitch and yaw?
Pitch refers to forward or rearward camera movement in the X axis (horizontal), and yaw refers to rotational camera movement in the Y axis (vertical). This is thought to occur easily during telephoto shooting. Traditional methods only compensated for yaw and pitch when shooting movies.
What is rotary shift?
This is a shift that occurs when the camera rotates right or left centered on the lens. The SH-50 uses mechanical methods for powerfully correcting rotary shift.
What is vertical/horizontal shift?
This is a shift that occurs when the camera moves vertically (Y axis) or horizontally (X axis). This is thought to occur easily during macro shooting.
Handheld Starlight Mode with flash beautifully captures night scenes and people in dark situations without blurring
Handheld Starlight Mode can now be used with the flash. The camera automatically merges an image of the subject in the foreground illuminated with the flash, and an image of the background, making both the subject and night scenery beautiful in the final shot.

A 24x optical zoom is packed into a compact camera body. In combination with Super-Resolution Zoom, zooming up to 48x is possible. With minimal image degradation zooming, moving moments can be captured up close. This feature is also available for movies.
Wide-angle 25mm makes it possible to shoot wide compositions
A zoom starting from a wide-angle 25mm makes a wide range of shooting possible.
High-performance Tele-Macro makes it possible to shoot up to 40 cm away from the subject at a super-telephoto 600mm
1This model is equipped with a macro function for approaching the subject up to 40 cm away while using the 24x zoom. This is particularly useful for capturing subjects it is difficult to get close to.
The touch panel enables smooth operations with a fingertip
In addition to traditional button and dial operations, this model is equipped with a touch panel for intuitive controls. It makes selection of the autofocus position easy when shooting, and enables skipping frames (browsing) and magnification of images during playback.
1080 30p/1080 60i Full HD movies
In addition to being able to record high-definition still images and 1080 30p movies simultaneously, you can also select 1080 60i movies for smooth and beautiful playback of quick movement. The camera uses the MOV recording format with H.264 compression which is highly compatible with playback on a computer.
Multi Recording enables simultaneous recording of both photos and movies
Multi Recording allows two images to be shot at the same time using the advanced TruePic image processing engine. Capture several aspects of the same moment by using Photo in Movie to simultaneously record Full HD movies and full-sized photos, or Photo with Movie Clip to automatically record movies before and after capturing a still image.
Photo in Movie
With this function, you can capture full-pixel photos while recording a high-quality Full HD movie. Since sequential shooting is also available, you will never miss a photo opportunity.
Photo with Movie Clip
A movie is automatically recorded for a set time before the shutter button is pressed, at intervals of 3 seconds before, 5 seconds before, and 7 seconds before. The 3 seconds after the shutter button is pressed will also be recorded as a movie. When viewing images afterward, the recorded movies can also be viewed, enhancing the memories of the scene.
HDMI Out and HDMI Control make high-quality movies more enjoyable on a TV
Enjoy high-definition playback easily, just by connecting the camera to an HDTV using an HDMI cable (optional). You can also use the TV remote to control playback operations.

Backlight HDR and Shadow Adjust let you capture scenes just as they appear to the naked eye
A single snap of the shutter instantly captures multiple shots at differing brightnesses. Shadowed areas in the picture are then corrected to a natural brightness level.
iAUTO automatically detects scenes and shoots just as you imagine
Simply pointing the camera at the subject enables automatic detection and selection of the optimum shooting mode from 29 available scenes. It will also automatically apply Shadow Adjustment for portrait or landscape shots that are backlit.
