I wanted to buy him something that would take him more than just a little while to put together. The package arrived yesterday and he decided to start with the free Christmas Legos that came with this product. At 5:00pm he decided he wanted to start putting this together. I was able to skype with him for a couple hours when he was putting it together as I am in AZ and he is in WA. He worked on this until 10:00pm and got up at 5:00am this morning to finish it. Poor kid has school too but wanted to finish it so bad he didn't care about sleep LOL. The sheer enjoyment on his face was enough for me. I wanted something that would be a little bit of a challenge for him and he truly enjoyed every second of it. Ok, build wise this is very straightforward. As ever the instructions are good and there's no difficult sections. There is some build repetition on the side panels and the legs but this is to be expected on the majority of models and doesn't detract from the experience. When complete the model looks great although I'm still in two minds as to whether I like the yellow / light blue parts on the top! Where this model really comes into its own is its play appeal. It has multiple guns, ladders, standing areas, ropes etc allowing you to easily house an army on this thing!In summary, it looks great and I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a playset with lots of features. If you're looking for a more challenging build then I would maybe give this a miss and look for one of the UCS sets or maybe a retired AT-AT or Star Destroyer.
