RELATED NAMES include: Crae, Crea, Cree, MacAra, MacArra, MacCrae, MacCraith, MacCraw, MacCray, MacCree, MacCrow, MacGrath, Ray, Rea, Reath, Wray The name comes from a Galic expression signifying 'son of grace', and the clan originally hailed from Beauly, near Inverness. It established itself in Kintail, in Ross, in the middle of the fourteenth century, and was later appointed as Constables of Eilean Donan Castle, on Loch Duich.
