Digital voice recorders have replaced the compact audio cassette as the forerunner in audio recording. At the time, recorders were bulky, operating only with large size audio cassettes making the machines barely portable, particularly for professional use.
With the advent of tablets, lightweight laptops, and smartphones, it is important to discern how the digital voice recorder measures up to other sound recording devices. There are certainly instances in which a pen and paper are completely acceptable, but there are plenty of instances in which a digital voice recorder is the preferred method for recording thoughts, notes, and responses.
A digital voice recorder is very compact in size and therefore very portable. The portability and device capabilities allow for a wide variety of suggested uses in both the professional and personal capacity.
