Fine Molds 1/72 IJN Human Torpedo Kaiten Type 1 (Contains 2 Kaiten kits)"
Description
  • Japan Import.
Detailed 1/72 scale assembly model kit of the Kaiten ("return towards heaven"), a human piloted suicide torpedo used by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJA) in during the closing stages of World War II. Five types of Kaiten torpedoes were planned originally, but only Type 1, the one-pilot version based on the 24 inch Type 93 ("Long Lance") torpedo was used operationally by the Japanese. Kaitens never generated the results envisioned by the IJA, and U.S. Navy credited only two ships sunk by the Kiaten, although IJA claimed more successful Kaiten sinkings. Some historian speculate that the USS Indianapolis was sunk by one or more Kaitens fired by Japanese submarine I-58 under the command Lieutenant Cmdr. Mochitsura Hashimoto, a theory which are not supported by historic records. This Fine Molds 1/72 scale assembly kit features parts to construct two complete Kaiten Type 1 torpedoes. This is a must have model kit for World War II maritime warfare enthusiasts. **Aaron's Notes: Fine Molds plastic model kits include illustrated instructions in both English & Japanese, and painting guide color table shows Tamiya Acrylic Paints & Gunze Sanyo AQUIEOUS Hobby Colors.**
