Resvenox is trans- Resveratrol, a healthful polyphenolic compound found in grapes (primarily the skins), berries, peanuts, pine, knotweed, and other plant materials. It is believed that red wine (which contains 0.3 - 1.07 mg resveratrol/5 oz glass) consumption in southern France may have a bearing on the low incidences of coronary heart disease in that population, despite a high intake of saturated fats; a phenomenon which is commonly known as the "French Paradox." A major breakthrough in anti-aging research in recent years, was the identification of genetic pathways that are regulatory master keys in the aging process, a prominent one being the Silent information regulator (SIRT) pathway. Resveratrol was found to increase SIRT1 (the type found in humans) activity 13-fold, with potentially beneficial effects in healthy aging and life-span.
