すみれはパンジーと同じ科で、小さく壊れやすい花を持ち、ヨーロッパ・北アフリカ・アジアに生息します。熱情的な香りのオイルと美しい紫の花びらをもちます。古代ギリシャでは「繁殖力」を意味し、一方ローマ人はワインの香りつけとして使われました。すみれの花は防腐効果があり、その葉は傷を和らげるといわれています。花言葉ですみれは「恥ずかしさ」と「上品」を意味し、その香りは強く心を魅了します。

The violet is a species of viola, a small and fragile flower of Europe, NorthernAfrica and Asia. Harvested for centuries for its intensely odorant oil and its beautifulpurple petals of Parma glow. The sweet violet symbolized fertility in Ancient Greece,while the Romans used it to season their wine. Violet petals have antiseptic qualitiesand its leaves appease wounds.In the town of Toulouse, in southwestern France, thereis a neightbourhood called “Cite des violettes”, where violet was cultivated fordecades.
