Crafted from only the finest reclaimed old teak which had been naturally weathered over time to that beautiful silvery grey color, our expert craftsmen through their fine artisanal handicraft have recreated the minimalist sense of aesthetic whilst retaining the vintage and rustic feel – bringing out the new in the old.
Our old teak woods are all painstakingly sourced and selected for their quality. As these are mature reclaimed old teak, there is no need for industrial bake drying as required by newer teaks where if not done properly risks crack appearing within 2 years. Old teak also does not require special oils and treatments to maintain and waterproof (more about this later).
Weighing in at a solid 6.6 kg (14.55 lbs), this is a finely crafted piece of furniture that is both durable and stable. You can literally feel the quality in its weight alone. You will surely love it to no end!
Why Teak?
Teak (Tectona Grandis) is in itself a very beautiful wood with its delightful grain pattern. Prized above most other woods for its timeless elegance, strength and durability, teak has several innate qualities that qualifies itself as a premium most sought after material for furniture.
The abundance of natural oils and rubber elements locked within its dense wood grain even after processing renders it a naturally weatherproof wood. These same oils and rubber protect the wood against parasites, fungi and dry rot without the need for special oils and treatments required by other woods. It is the perfect outdoor and bathroom furniture and definitely can last for many years, more so when used indoors.
Teak trees can take up to 80 years to mature before it is harvested for wood. It begins life freshly cut in a golden brown color. Once exposed over time especially to the outdoors, it ages and fades to an impressive silver grey patina that is soft, smooth and inviting to whoever sets eyes on it, giving home owners a sense of belonging and nostalgia.
Old reclaimed teak is especially resistant to heat and moisture variations, not prone to cracks, structurally very sound and has a lower risk of fungi growth due to less water content. That’s why we chose smooth unfinished old teak for this particular stool apart from its aesthetic virtues. Literally a timeless beauty!
One thing is for certain, teak does not rust (like metal including poor quality stainless steel), does not deform or disintegrate (like plastic), does not look tacky like other brightly lacquered timber furniture and resistant to the effects of water like in a shower, bathroom or outdoor patio.
