I wanted a heavy square stoneware set that was a nice calming color, big enough to sit in my lap while eating dinner in front of the TV. I'm so glad I found this set. It's not square, but the shape and design is clean and modern. I love that the plates have high borders for saucy foods. They are nice, sturdy, and have a good weight. The other reviewers are correct about the slight glaze imperfections and the rough bottoms. I dont mind the glaze imperfections since the entire set was less than $30. The rough bottoms scored my fingers and are sure to scratch the plates while stacking them. This was solved with a small piece of medium grit sand paper and some elbow grease. Now the plates are nice and smooth. I got this idea from reading a review from someone else. I love using the mixture of the two colors since my kitchen is black, white, and aqua. The dinnerware looks much more expensive than it is. I got it only a few weeks ago, but it seems to be fine in dishwasher etc. Plates are nice and solid, it's heavier than it looked, but I hope that will make it more chip resistant. The cereal bowls are large, great for big salads. A little harder to figure out how to stack them in dishwasher, but that's not a big deal. I also purchased some smaller bowls and I love them! I served company ice cream in them and it looked so nice! Cups are large too, and will probably be great for soup. For coffee lovers they would be good. I also bought a vegetable dish in aqua and am still trying to find the serving platter in either color.
