These 17 speciality shades fall into 2 groups—Creative and Technical—that are designed to help rectify mistakes and mix custom colours by either intensifying or toning down other IGORA ROYAL shades. The Creative colours split into the 9,5 Pastels and the Boosters (0-55, 0-77, 0-88, 0-89 and 0-99), while the Technical shades divide between the Neutralisers (0-11, 0-22 and 0-33) and the 3 Extract shades (D-0, E-0 and E-1).

The Pastels are designed for application to light bases (9 and lighter), giving natural-looking, soft tone directions to the hair. They're perfect for personalising a blond look or for neutralising after a lightening service. All shades can be intermixed. Develop visually with a 1:1 mix of 3% 10 Vol IGORA ROYAL Oil Developerfor 5–30 minutes.

The Boosters are designed to be mixed with other shades and are perfect for boosting fashion tones in all directions. You can add up to 50% of the other colour used, but remember that adding that much will reduce covering power.

Likewise the Neutralisers are for mixing with other IGORA ROYAL shades to neutralise warmth. They're great when you want to create cool tone directions. The amount to use varies with level: 5% of colour on levels 8 and 9, 15% on 6 and 7 or 25% on levels 1 to 5.

The Extracts are also designed to add even more variety to the IGORA ROYAL colour palette. They can be used mixed with other shades or on their own for special effects.

• Use D-0 to dilute other colours to reduce high pigmentation and create softer pastels. You can also use it on its own to create even shine. Mix with 3% 10 Vol developer.
• E-0 is a lightening additive that, mixed with another IGORA ROYAL shade gives 1 level of extra lift when you need to colour dark hair that's never been coloured before. On its own, E-0 can be used with 12% developer for up to 4 levels of lift.
• E-1 will give and extra portion of cool tone direction when mixed with another shade. On its own, it'll give you an extra deposit of cool pigments.

Each shade comes in a 60-ml tube.

What is Bleaching?


Bleaching applications lighten your hair by up to eight shades whether your natural hair color is medium blonde or light brown. Special bleaching applications for very dark hair (medium brown to black) still lighten hair by two or three shades without undesired red tinges. It helps to know how bleaching applications work. First, the hair’s smooth cuticle layer is disturbed to make it permeable to the bleaching solution. This allows the hydrogen peroxide in the bleaching application to penetrate deep into the hair shaft where it oxidizes the existing pigments. This renders the pigments colorless. The available bleaching applications contain different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide and therefore bleach the natural pigments to different degrees.


The bleaching occurs in several steps and the hair color changes gradually as well. In the process, the hair changes from its natural color via various shades of red and yellow before it reaches the final blonde color. You should therefore be sure to select the right bleaching application for the color of your hair and the desired blonde shade. Then you must adhere to the prescribed leave-in times (30 to 45 minutes) to prevent coloring your hair blonde with a reddish or yellow tinge because the bleaching process was interrupted prematurely. Leaving the bleaching agent in your hair too long is not going to lighten your hair to any significant extent but it will damage the hair leaving it straw-like and porous.
