An EF-S standard zoom lens that supports new movie shooting functions and provides a 7.5x high power zoom covers from wide angle to telephoto range. Quiet and smooth continuous AF is supported in movie shooting and Live View shooting (applicable to EOS 650D only as of 8th June 2012) by a thorough optimization of the continuous AF mechanism with a new six-group zoom system and the adoption of newly developed Stepping Motor (STM). The lens contains 1 UD lens element to minimize magnification-type chromatic aberration and color blurring, 1 PMo aspherical lens elements to correct various types of lens aberration, resulting in high image quality across the entire zoom range. Image stabilizer (IS) offers shake compensation up to 4-stop shutter speed and supports a new Dynamic IS function (automatically enabled during movie shooting) for movie shooting which provides a more effective IS while walking or similar types of situations. A new micro-stepping drive is adopted in the aperture control for quieter movie shooting.
