Though oxidized, or fermented, like other tea types, which come from the Camellia sinensis leaf, rooibos is different. Actually, it’s not tea at all. The word means red bush because that’s where rooibos comes from the needle-like leaves of a red bush botanically known as Aspalathus linearis. That explains why rooibos is often called red tea or, in the U. K.,red bush tea.
