What is Spring Turmeric?
Spring Turmeric (species: Curcuma aromatica), is commonly known as wild turmeric. It is called Spring Turmeric as it blooms in spring. Although it is different from the common turmeric (species: Curcuma longa) that is known as spice turmeric, it contains similar nutritional element of curcumin.
What is Curcuma (Turmeric)?
Turmeric found in the root of Curcuma longa plant and a member of the ginger family originating in tropical Asia. Most widely used in India as spice, Turmeric has been used as a medicine in both Ayurveda and Chinese medicines as an anti-inflammatory agent. Throughout Asia, it has been used for stomach problems, diarrhea, heartburn, wind, bloating, colic, etc. There are few types of turmeric, namely “Spring Turmeric” (curcuma aromatic), “Autumn Turmeric” (Curcuma longa), “Purple Turmeric”, “Java Turmeric” (Curcuma xanthorrhiza), and “Black turmeric” (Kaempferia parviflora). Different turmeric has different components. For example, Spring Turmeric contains high levels of curcumin and essential oils, while Autumn Turmeric has high levels of curcumin and Purple Turmeric is plentiful in essential oils.
