Make your own soy wax candle and hide a secret message underneath!

Inside the Kit: Soy wax 60g & 20g, Fragrance Oil 7ml, Cotton Wick, Wick sustainer and sticker, Tin Container, Message Paper

You will need: Metal beaker for melting the soy wax, Thermal plate or pot for double boiling, Thermometer, Water-based Pen, Wooden Stick


Step 1: Attaching the wick on the inside of the Tin Container
- Remove the brown coloured paper on the sticker and stick it on the bottom of the wick sustainer. Remove the white color paper on the other side and attach the wick to the centre of the tin container.


Step 2: Melting the soy wax
- Pour the soy wax (60g) into a metal beaker and melt the wax on the thermal plate. If you do not have a thermal plate, you may double boil to melt the wax in a pot.
- Turn off the hot plate when about 3/4 of the soy wax has been melted. The lingering heat will melt the remaining wax.
- Alternatively, you may use microwave oven with glass cup or paper cup to melt the soy wax. In this case, please stop the microwave oven every 20 seconds and check the wax. Do not heat it for more than 20 secs each time.


Step 3: Adding fragrance oil and setting the soy wax in the tin container
- When the melted wax's temperature reaches between 60-65 degree celsius, add 5ml of fragrance oil and stir gently using the wooden stick.
- Wait for the wax to cool off until around 45 degree celsius.
- Pour the melted wax into your tin container
- Do not touch the tin container until it has totally cooled off.


Step 4: Writing your secret message


- Using a water-based pen, write your secret message on the message paper provided.
- You may test your pen on small piece of paper. Drop few drops of melted wax (from Step 2) and check if the writing spreads.


Step 5: Placing the message paper on the candle


- When the candle (from Step 3) has solidified, put the message paper over the candle in the container.


Step 6: Cover the message paper with another layer of candle wax.


- Repeat Step 2 and Step 3 with 20g of soy wax and 2ml fragrance oil.
- Pour the melted soy wax on top of the message paper then wait until the wax is solidified.




Note: As the wax melts when you burn the candle, the secret message will be appear once the top layer of wax is exposed. The message paper will not be burnt, but please keep a close eye when you light the candle for safety reasons. You may also remove the paper after seeing the message.
