What is USB 3.1 Type-C ?

USB Type-C is a new standard connector that’s very tiny. It’s about a third the size of an old USB Type-A plug. Type-C supports exciting new USB standard, like USB Power Delivery (USB PD) and USB 3.1.

The USB Power Delivery (USB PD) specification ups the power delivery to 100 watts, unlike a USB 2.0 connection provides up to 2.5 watts of power only. It’s bi-directional, so a device can either send or receive power. And this power can be transferred at the same time the device is transmitting data across the connection.

The USB 3.1 is a new USB standard. It doubles the bandwidth to 10Gbps from USB 3‘s theoretical bandwidth of 5 Gbps.

This is a single connector standard that every device should be able to use; it’s an all-in-one connector. The combined standards of USB PD and USB 3.1 make Type-C connector very powerful. That one tiny connector can be small and fit into a mobile device, or be the powerful port you use to connect all the peripherals to your laptop.
