SEPT NAMES include: Chalmers, Chambers, Clark, Dowie, Gilbert, Leary, MacLear, MacPhail, Martin, MacMartin, Paul, Sorley, Taylor. The name is thought to derive from a Gaelic expression meaning either 'crooked nose' or 'crooked hill'.
