Your mission with Wild Planet's Spy Vision Scope, should you decide to accept it, will first be to assemble it. Apparently, the Secretary has disavowed any knowledge of assembly in the accompanying instruction sheet--it assumes that what's in the box is already put together. Not so, and while assembly of this plastic headset with spring-loaded magnifying lenses and pencil-beam flashlight is no Mission Impossible, if the instructions were to self-destruct in five seconds, young spies would still have a bunch of separate components when the smoke cleared. That said, the scope is a decent toy example of James Bond-style goofy gadgetry: the kind of stuff that makes up in illogic with a factor of "Kewl!" Why give your budding Ethan Hunt a magnifying glass and a camp lantern when, with the press of a button, a pair of plastic lenses will travel over the left ear and spring open in front of his face; or an orange penlight at the right ear opens to illuminate automatically? Its plastic construction isn't exactly up to Q's Bondian specs, and resetting its spring action is certain to leave smudged fingerprints on the lenses, but the Spy Vision Scope makes kids' covert fun Mission Quite Probable. --Tony Mason
