What is Xylitol?

Xylitol is a natural sugar-free sweetener derived from the fibrous parts of plants, found in small amounts in many fruitsand vegetables, such as berries, oats, mushrooms or corn husks.
Suitable for diabetics or those on low-carb diets.
Looks and taste like sugar without any after taste. Xylitol is NOT artificial sweeteners and does not have unpleasant aftertaste like aspartame, Sucralose, Saccharin.
Low GI of 7 – does not cause a spike in blood sugar levels. (Glycemic index is a numerical index that ranks carbohydrates on their rate of glycemic response or how quickly they convert to glucose in the body. The higher the number, the more quickly the carbohydrates break down thus causing a spike in blood sugar. ) Xylitol is a natural insulin stabilizer, therefore it doesn’t cause a spike in blood sugar and actually helps reduce sugar and carbohydrate cravings. Thanks to its insulin-independent nature, xylitol has been used in Germany, Switzerland, Russia and Japan as a preferred sweetener for diabetic diets since the 1960’s.

Helps prevents tooth decay and ear infections

Many dentists recommend using xylitol-sweetened chewing gum because numerous studies show that xylitol has powerful benefits for dental health and prevention of tooth decay. When you chew gum with xylitol (or use it as a sweetener), the sugar metabolism in the bacteria is blocked and they literally starve to death.

As a medicine, Xylitol is used to prevent middle ear infections in young children. Since the mouth, nose and ears are all interconnected, in one study in children with recurring ear infections, daily usage of xylitol-sweetened chewing gum reduced the rate of infection by 40%.

Increases absorption of calcium in the digestive system, which is good for your teeth and may also protect against osteoporosis

Although xylitol can kill the "bad" bacteria in the mouth, it can also feed the friendly bacteria in the gut, which is a good thing
