America) and if the battery runs low while you are away from civilization, just set it in the sunlight for awhile and it will recharge (which will last several weeks). My purchase was a replacement for the same model which I had used for 3 years with absolutely no maintenance (the original was working when someone decided they needed it more than I). I work outside and am a bit rough on watches; this model does scuff-up and tends to readily display battle-scars.
