• Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is cultivated from an herbal plant in the ginger family. After harvesting and drying, the roots are ground up into a yellow-orange powder. Many cultures around the world know turmeric as the major spice ingredient in curries and mustards; used for centuries in India, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and as part of Ayurveda and other branches of traditional medicine.
