Question & Answers

Q1:  What is HDMI?
Answer

HDMI is the abbreviation of High-Definition Multimedia Interface.

HDMI connects digital audio/video sources such as a set-top box, an HD DVD disc player, a Blu-ray Disc player, a PC, video game console, or an AV receiver to a compatible digital audio device and/or video monitor such as a television, monitor, etc.

HDMI makes an uncompressed digital RGB (Red, Green, Blue) connection from the source to the screen. By eliminating conversion to an analog signal, it delivers an unblemished image.

The non-degraded signal reduces flicker and leads to a clearer picture. HDMI intelligently communicates the highest output resolution with the source device.

The HDMI input is fully backward compatible with DVI (Digital Video Interface) sources but includes digital audio. HDMI uses HDCP copy protection.

Q2: Why is the picture quality at home not as good as what I saw in the shop?
Answer

The quality of the image you are watching is related to the quality of the signal going into your TV. In the shop you may have been watching a High Definition (HD) signal.

At home, you are probably watching video content coming from a Standard Definition (SD) source. A video signal in Standard Definition (SD) is of lower quality than a video from an HD source.

Typical examples of HD-sources are:

Q3: My TV makes a creaking/crackling sound when the TV is turned on/off or to standby.
Answer

This is a normal phenomenon and it does not impact your TV’s performance.

After you turn on your TV or switch it off or to standby, its plastic and metal parts expand or contract due to the changes in temperature. These contractions and expansions are the source of the creaking and crackling sounds, which are similar to the noises that your car makes when its engine and exhaust system are cooling down.
