Without Pre-warmed tip ~ A conventional tip at room temperature has a cooling effect on the ear canal. This cool-down effect might result in an inaccurate temperature reading being shown on the display. A cooler temperature in the ear canal could also affect the accuracy of repeated measurements.
 

With Pre-warmed tip ~ Unlike other ear thermometers, Braun Thermoscan ExactTemp features a pre-warmed tip that minimizes the cooling effect that could result from the introduction of a cool probe tip. The pre-warmed tip helps ensure accuracy measurement after measurement.

Why measure in the ear?
The ear is an excellent site to measure temperature. Braun ThermoScan measures the infrared heat generated by the eardrum and surrounding tissues. The eardrum shares blood supply with the temperature control center in the brain. Therefore, changes in body temperature are reflected sooner in the ear than at other sites.
