King Silk Art makes silk embroidery wall art, 100% hand-stitched by Master Artists in Suzhou, China. Our artwork, Susho, is completely natural, created with tiny needles and pure silk thread. Susho is a 2500 year old family tradition, with a unique and fascinating history.
These scenes are from a famous romantic tale, the basis of the Qixi Festival, China's Valentine's Day. The myth of the two lovers is based on astronomy, explaining an annual stellar phenomenon which makes Deneb look like a bridge between Vega, and Altair with its two small flanking stars.
The tale begins with the Goddess of Heaven, a strict mother with 7 beautiful daughters. Each of the girls worked very hard every day. The youngest, Zhin, wove clouds. One day, the girls decided to escape the boredom of their tasks and see what adventures they could find down on Earth.
During their visit, Zhin met a young cowherd named Niulang. It was true love at first sight. Zhin married Niulang in secret, knowing her mother was very busy, and would not notice for a long time she had not returned with her sisters.
Zhin and Niulang were very happily married and had two children. Eventually, Zhin mother discovered Zhin had married a mortal and was furious. She kidnapped Zhin and sent her back to weave clouds.
Niulang found out where his wife was being imprisoned from a magical ox. The ox took Niulang and the children to heaven to rescue Zhin. Enraged, the Goddess of Heaven took out her hairpin and scratched the Milky Way into the sky to keep them separated forever.
For most of the year, Zhin must weave clouds and can only watch Niulang and her two children.
For Feng Shui, these images attract and sustain romance. Perfect for a marriage corner and a great wedding or anniversary gift.
