They weren't quite as square as I was hoping for and they have a circular base but they look great. My only complaint is the bowls. they are very shallow but wide so if you have liquid in them it's easy to spill. they are more like a deep plate, great for pastas, not for cereal. The price of purchase is less than what you would spend on a normal night out. In any case, i thought it might be helpful to provide a couple of things i noticed - 1 - Packaging is horrible. When i say packaging, I mean it is packed to tightly for a set so delicate (and it is very delicate) which of course caused the contents of the package to arrive broken... Twice. I returned the first set and decided it was too much of a hassle to return the second so i just kept it. 2 - Be patient with the dishes (in other words, do not treat them like your typical run on the mill dishes - they cant withstand the usually beating that other dishes might be able to handle 3 - I would advise against serving kids with it. 4 - Wash them thoroughly before use. All arrived in perfect condition. We were called away from home a day or so after I got the dishes home so I can't write a review about the wear-ability of the dishes but I did hit one on the counter top as I was unloading them and it didn't even chip. I think we will be very happy with these dishes over time. This is a great value as a 16 piece set (4 place settings) for $16.00! I purchased 2 sets and may go back for a third set. The weight of the dishes was important to me and these are just the right balance; not as light weight as Corelle but not as heavy as most stoneware. These dishes are simple enough to use in a casual setting or dress up for more formal occasions.
