The ACS712 is capable of measuring AC or DC current flow, which is a fundamental requirement in a wide variety of application including over-current protection, battery chargers, switch mode power supply etc. The current flow measured are converted to the equivalent voltage to ease the measurement by an analog I/O port of Arduino.
