A light, two-layer shell in the thigh area and a three-layer fabric throughout the rest of the pant provide exceptional protection from rain and wet foliage alike. Adjustable webbing allows the chaps to be secured to any pair of pants or shorts that have pockets or belt loops. Binding at the top of the thigh prevents moisture from running in through the top, and a wide over-flap with rain gutter puts the death knell on any would-be water that would try to wander through your britches. When the skies clear, simply stow them in the included stuff sack and throw them in your backpack without adding a bunch of weight to your load.
