Product Description
This skier's thumb brace for UCL ligament injuries supports and immobilizes the thumb, protecting against further injury and allowing healing to occur. The thumb splint leave the other fingers free, preserving one's mobility and hand strength. Injury to the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) can be painful and disruptive. Tears to this ligament often lead to instability of the metacarpophalangeal joint, along with pain and swelling. This tears in the thumb occur when ligaments are forced too far back or to the side. Because of the activities that are often associated with this injury, it is also known as a skier's, gamekeeper's or gamer's thumb. If a complete tear occurs, thumb ligament surgery will likely be an option, but if it's just a partial tear, wearing a thumb brace will be a sufficient treatment. This rigid thumb splint holds the thumb still and in place, protecting against further injury and allowing the swelling to decrease so healing can occur. The outer shell of this thumb stabilizer is a rigid polyethylene material that is thin and lightweight. This portion of the thumb brace can be wiped clean with a damp cloth and soap or disinfectant. For a more comfortable fit, this treatment brace is anatomically contoured to your hand and includes two undersleeves. These undersleeve liners are made of breathable, stockinette material that ensure a soft, dry fit. Conveniently, the brace provides two undersleeves so one can be worn while the other is being cleaned. The thumb brace is secured by a Velcro closure at the wrist. This makes it easy to apply and adjust with just one hand. Some injuries that this brace can treat include: UCL tears, de Quervain's syndrome, thumb strains and sprains, thumb tendonitis, post cast removal and after one has surgery on the thumb. This thumb stabilizer is available in a variety of sizes, fitting wrist circumferences 6 to 10 inches. To determine what size you need, measure the circumference around your wrist above your wrist bone.
