Department 56 Dickens' Village Duke's Wheel Cheese Shop Lit House

Product Description

Tudor styling, a variety of window shapes, and side staircase are some of the delightful features of this specialty shop in Londontown. Stocked for the holiday season, convenient ice boxes in front are so full that the excess cheese wheels are stored on top. Empty barrels wait in back for return to Cheshire County, west England. A sculpted lamp post welcomes shoppers. Though Duke's offers a variety of cheeses as listed on the back sign, Cheshire was the most popular. By the 1870s, 12,000 tons of Cheshire cheese was produced every year. Appreciated for its varieties, it was aged to a hardness that made it possible to easily transport to London.
