SEPT NAMES: Caird, Clouston, Clyne, Linklater, Lyall, Mason Descended from fierce Viking sea raiders who first settled in the Normandy region of France. The clan later acquired a mighty power base in Scotland. It was William Sinclair, created Lord Sinclair in 1449, who was responsible for the construction of the mysterious Rosslyn Chapel, in Midlothian, while the clan was for centuries stalwart supporters of the Royal house of Stewart.
