The covering is thicker 100% cotton material and has no plastic! The water and stain protectant is fused right in the cotton material. Love this because it does not get ruined or ripped when washed. The zippers are good quality and are holding up great. The cover does not make that plastic sound when laying on it. I have had these for almost 9 months and have washed them a lot. They are still in perfect condition. I have grandkids aged 8 months to 6 yrs. olds. My pillows go through a lot, from juice spills, spit-up, bottle leaks, sweat, vomit and more. The pillows are always dry and "protected"! The more you wash them, the softer the cover gets but the protection stays great.
