About this product

Blackmores Cal-D is a high dose calcium supplement providing 600mg of elemental calcium worth 500IU of vitamin D3 in each easy-to-swallow tablet. Vitamin D3 works to support bone mineral density and helps with the absorption of calcium. Blackmores Cal-D may help with maintain healthy bones and muscles and maintain bone density.

Cal-D

Cal-D contains two key bone health nutrients, calcium and vitamin D3.

Cal-D contains a form of calcium called calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate is the most concentrated form of supplemental calcium, meaning that you can get a higher dose of calcium in fewer tablets.

Cal-D also provides a high dose of vitamin D3 which aids in the absorption of calcium helping to form and maintain strong bones.

Cal-D provides 600 mg of elemental calcium per daily dose with 500 IU of vitamin D3. With the recommended dose of just two tablets per day, Cal-D is a convenient way to get doses of these two essential bone minerals and may help in the prevention of osteoporosis.

A note on calcium carbonate- it has been thought that calcium carbonate, while a concentrated form of calcium, is not very well absorbed. However studies have shown that, when taken with a meal, calcium carbonate is well absorbed in most people. When vitamin D is low this can affect the gastrointestinal absorption of calcium. Combining vitamin D3 with calcium carbonate helps with effective absorption.

Features

Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body, and approximately 99% of the body’s calcium exists in the bones. The major function of calcium is building and maintaining bones and teeth.

Calcium is also involved in various metabolic roles such as nerve transmission, contraction of muscles and the regulation of heart muscle function.

Vitamin D is essential for the absorption and utilization of calcium. Deficiency of vitamin D results in lack of bone strength and density, and joint pain.

Women’s calcium requirements are increased after menopause as levels of oestrogen decline resulting in decreased calcium absorption.
