When grated, it dissolves completely in the wash, leaving no clumps behind. My clothes come out very clean, it doesn't fade them or break me out, and because it leaves NO residue there's no dryer static either! They come out fluffy and smelling fresh without using gunky fabric softeners or dryer sheets, it cuts right through hard water too. The soap doesn't foam up big in the washer like chemical detergents will and doesn't leave a film behind either, which makes it great for front loading HE washers. It makes a good stain stick for pre-treating grease and lipstick stains on clothes if you moisten the stain then rub the bar on the stain. It also dissolves well by itself in water (grated) to make a vegetable-safe soap spray to deter garden pests and powdery mildew. I tried this on skin, and it cleans very well, although it is a little drying to skin which is already sensitive and dry. I buy bar soap to use in the shower. I have used this soap as a general body soap and also as needed as a facial soap. Let me say first that I hate most soaps; they dry my skin out or make me break out or smell funky, either too "manly" or too "girly". This soap does none of that. It is just a good quality soap that works! No animal by-products so I can feel good about my purchase - and it's made in America. What's not to love? If you want simple and clean, this should be your go-to soap! Now that I have found it, I am a convert. Oh, and good lather, rinse-ability, and long-lasting. I don't want to spend the money for fancy castile bars, but I wanted a soap that didn't contain animal tallow or harmful additives (per EWG website or Skin Deep app) and that was nourishing to the skin. This fit the bill and then some. It lathers well and has a light, pleasant scent. My husband enjoys it too; it is not "girly". We have both noticed a healthier glow to our skin and it cleans even better than tallow soaps. And since it is made with coconut oil (vs. olive oil, etc.), it has an indefinite shelf life. Coconut oil will not go rancid. Walmart online has the best price (7/2014).
