This LEGO set was one of a few that my son received for his birthday. This one was the biggest of the four, and it took him about an hour to assemble it, which I figured was reasonable for a 10-year old. Like othe Ninjago sets, this set features a high-tech vehicle, piloted by a ninja "hero" character, along with a snake-like enemy minifig and a few weapons/relics. Like other Ninjago LEGO sets, this one looks really cool when assembled, and the vehicle has some neat play features, including several fins that can be extended, rubberized tires (always like these better than the hard plastic molded tires), a working rocket launcher, and the ability to sort of "transform."

Unlike the outstanding LEGO Ninjago Jay's Storm Fighter 9442, this "transformation" is done by simply flipping the vehicle upside down. You see, the cockpit that hold the figure ran rotate freely, allowing the driver to be positioned right-side up no matter which side the vehicle is resting on. It's a neat idea, but the plain truth of the matter is that the bottom (or flipside) of the vehicle is just not very interesting. It's got different colored accents, but lacks all the cool features found on the top side of the vehicle. There really is no good reason to have the bottom side of the vehicle facing upwards. Like I said, it was a neat idea, but the execution fall a bit flat.

Pricing on this set is a bit on the high side. The box has a piece count of 286, and a retail price of $39.99. Not including tax, that comes out to about $0.14/piece. Generally speaking, I don't like to pay more than $0.12/piece and try to spend around $0.10/piece. I kind of use the $0.10/piece as my baseline price for LEGO sets. If it comes in under that price, I know it's a good deal. If it's over that price, I know it's not such a great deal. This set is substantilly over that price, but not nearly as high as some of he Ninjago minifigs are selling for! I'm willing to pay a higher price if I know I'm getting something really great, but I wouldn't consider this particular set a really great set. Definitely nowhere near as good as the Ninjago set I mentioned above or the LEGO Ninjago Rattlecopter 9443 orLEGO Ninjago Skull Truck 2506.

If it's going to make your kid happy, go ahead and get it. Just know that there are beter sets out there!
