How to Mount Bicycle Lights

Riding a bicycle in the dark can be both challenging and dangerous. Bicycle lights allow the cyclist to not only see, but also to be seen. Bicycle lights are mounted to both the front and rear of the bicycle, and they are typically battery operated. Each light features a mounting bracket and a screw and nut combination to secure the bracket to the bicycle handlebar or seat post.

Instructions

Front Bicycle Light

1. Use the screwdriver to loosen and remove the screw and nut from the bicycle light mounting bracket. The front light emits clear, white light.
2. Separate the ends of its mounting bracket and slide the bracket over the top of the handlebar.
3. Slide the bracket and light close to the center of the handlebar, beside the handlebar stem. The stem connects the handlebar to the bicycle frame. Placing the light directly beside the stem prevents the light, brake and shift levers from interfering with one another.
4. Position the light so that its headlamp is parallel to the ground.
5. Install the screw through the holes in the bracket and attach the nut to the back of the screw. Holding the nut with one hand, use the screwdriver to fully tighten the mounting bracket screw.

Rear Bicycle Light

6. Use the screwdriver to remove the screw and nut from the rear light mounting bracket. The rear light is red, like an automobile´s.
7. Locate the bicycle seat post. The seat post is a length of adjustable tubing that connects the saddle to the bicycle frame.
8. Separate the ends of the mounting bracket and slide the bracket around the seat post.
9. Position the light just above where the seat post enters the bicycle frame and so that it is facing the rear tire. Placing the light closer to the frame prevents it from being obscured by the saddle.
10. Install the screw through the bracket and attach the nut to the end of the screw. Hold the nut in place while using the screwdriver to fully tighten the screw.
