Personally, I find the lock function useful. Previously, I bought several of the older version (without lock function) from other sellers. The board does serve the purpose of being 
environmentally friendly by reducing paper consumption. However, I saw the frustration my kids have when they accidentally press on the erase button. There goes their maths 
working and they have to redo again. Now they just have to select the lock function to "preserve" their maths working or other information.
