Customers' Reviews (What People Say About the Koa Pili Koko)

"I just want to say, these are some of the best ukuleles I have played. I am a composer, and have a very good understanding of music and musical instruments. No disrespect to Kamaka or any other ukulele brand, but these gems are, in my opinion as good, or even better than some of the best Kamaka or Koaloha ukuleles that I have played. They are extremely well built, the sound and feel are amazing, and most of the ones I played had good intonation, which is rare even for the very high end brands.
I can’t say enough postitive things about them, and wish I could buy one of every model. Do yourself a favor and buy one of these.. I have not been able to put it down all day, I’m in love! fyi, I’m not selling these or in any way affiliated with Koapili. Just an amazed happy customer.
Thanks to my cuz who hooked me up. Brah you know who you are."

"I used to own about 20 ukes, including several top-of-the-line models by Lanikai, Kala, Oscar Schmidt, Ibanez, and others. Then I bought my first KPK, a tenor, in June, 2011. It made me realize that the only things that matter are the sound and the playability. Since this realization struck me I have sold off most of my pretty (and expensive) ukes and now I only have seven - and four of them are KPKs.
You won't find a better sounding ukulele at any price. The all-solid construction is something you don't get at three times the price with most manufacturers. The unique finish they put on looks fantastic - not too shiny, not dull "satin" either. But it's the sound that sets these ukes apart. There is no way to describe it without a string of silly adjectives - you really need to hear it yourself.
As someone who has learned the hard (i.e. expensive) way, you can pay a lot more for a ukulele, but you won't find one that plays as well and sounds as great as a KPK."

- Joe Barkson

"I bought this uke used. The original owner had installed some Aquila strings and it had the rosewood nut and saddle. I almost fell into the "I gotta have a bone nut and saddle" trap and glad I didn''t. My son came over and played it, and I could hear it a lot better when he played it than if I held and played it. Man, this thing is full and sweet...a gorgeous woody sound that some players pay hundreds and hundreds more dollars to get from high-end ukes. I''m not sure I''ll change a thing about this uke.rnIt''s built like a tank but is still loud and resonant. Oh, and it''s gorgeous. This instrument is a flat out bargain. Don''t hesitate to get one."

"Very nice tenor uke! I received my Koa Pili Koko Tenor uke a few months back and it is just beautiful. It has a very warm sound and nice sustain. The wood is beautiful and I find the rosewood nut, finger board, saddle and bridge to be lovely to the eyes and delivers a rich warm sound. This is my first tenor. I first bought an inexpensive soprano, then a baritone and decide to try a tenor. For a solid Acacia wood ukulele, and this price, you can't go wrong!
P.S. - I will be uploading some videos on Youtube shortly! "

- Joe Cruz

"(Mine’s a tenor.)
Solid wood is very important for tone in acoustic guitars & ukes too. Avoid laminates! These deliver at a nice price.
I do wonder how much better the sound might be if nut & saddle were bone or Tusq instead of rosewood (and I might replace them just to find out) but the tone is excellent – a little brighter than mahogany yet still rich, and the figuring in the acacia make them real lookers. Excellent value!"

"I just received mine today, a lovely soprano. What I read about hem is absolutely true. The playability and tone are as good as it gets. I am very glad to add this to my collection. Can`t wait for the next open mike at our meetings. Thanks for reading this. Aloha to all, Jack"

"Just played a Tenor Kili Koko not too long ago and I am very surprised by its price as well as the nice warm & sweet tone that is enriched on this uke. Someting about the feel of it makes it as if it’s part of you with a comfortable playability. I checked out several reviews, owners that do have one and of course from YouTube players that convinced me overall. As part of my father’s day gift to myself I will definitely get one."

"Well people I got the Koa Pili Koko Pineapple today. STOP……What is this……Awesome….Beautiful…. I’m not a Uke specialist or anything, but this thing is nice. It is very solid, sounds great. Does any body else have one of these? It looks ans feels like a Kamaka. Well, I like it and am happy to share my thoughts you."

"Excellent, warm tone, incredible sustain and solid build. Would strongly recommend for any intermediate ukulele player. Quality of sound of instrument is up there with the best but extremely cost efficient. I purchased this item in the end of April and have had no problems with it since other than the sticker on the inside falling off. Quality strings and soft bag are a bonus. A ukulele of similar build and quality would easily cost several times as much. This is definitely solid Acacia wood as much as I can tell, and the claims of living up to a similar sound as koa is almost 100% valid. I have enjoyed this ukulele in the many months I have had it and it has opened up and I plan to do so many years into the future."

"I used to own about 20 ukes, including several top-of-the-line models by Lanikai, Kala, Oscar Schmidt, Ibanez, and others. Then I bought my first KPK, a tenor, in June, 2011. It made me realize that the only things that matter are the sound and the playability. All the cosmetic stuff is nothing but added expense - I like maple binding and mother-of-pearl purfling, but they aren't nearly as important as the sound. Since this realization struck me I have sold off most of my pretty (and expensive) ukes and now I only have seven - and four of them are KPKs.
You won't find a better sounding ukulele at any price. The all-solid construction is something you don't get at three times the price with most manufacturers. KPK makes their ukes from solid acacia (Hawaiian koa is a type of acacia), and the unique finish they put on looks fantastic - not too shiny, not dull "satin" either.

"I own the soprano KPK. A lovely lilting, pure sound as you would hope for from solid acacia wood (top, sides and back) - a cousin of Hawaiian acacia koa wood. Although not loud the ukulele has a wonderful resonance and complexity to the sound it produces. Loud people are obnoxious as are loud ukuleles in my opinion. You will get a great set-up with this instrument strung with Worth clears and a gig included for a pittance."

"This is an exceptional ukulele. You cannot get a much better sounding ukulele, or stringed instrument in general, at this price. These are essentially the cheapest solid wood instruments around, and play and sound great. It plays much better than a Kala concert that I played (I think that one was laminate) and sounds as good as a Martin Soprano I played as well. I really like the looks: it has a very simple design and the beauty of the wood grain speaks for itself. Even though it came straight from the factory it doesn't seem like it needs to be set-up much at all, perhaps I will lower the action. Though mine has not had any problems with cracking yet, I have heard tell that these have a propensity to crack, so make sure to buy or keep it well humidified."

"This is an excellent product. My son loves playing this ukulele and the music is rich and sounds nice."

"I am a long time musician and have bought and played countless guitars in my life - and am a stickler for quality and especially tone in acoustic stringed instruments. Sometimes a less expensive instrument will sound better than one that costs more. That is the case with Koa Pili Koko ukes. I bought the Soprano and then moved up to the Tenor. The quality and tone are remarkable at this price point. The sellers are usually in Hawaii, and though the instruments are made overseas, they are done to good specs, using decent wood and are finished in Hawaii, with set up. After I bought this uke I went to a ukelele outlet near me, a store that specializes in ukuleles, believe it or not, and played a lot of other ukes. Nothing, not Kala, especially not Lanikai, or any of the big names in lower priced ukes were even close in sound and playability. The only thing I liked better was a solid Hawaiian Koa Concert uke from Koaloha - now, that is a different class of ukulele - and I ended up forking out the $850+ bucks for it before case and so forth. I have not sold my Koa Pili Koko, however, and will keep it for road trips, gigs, playing on the street, beaching (it is actually a little too nice for the beach). It is one I can leave out around the house to pick up quickly - and always enjoy playing it, even though I own one of the finest ukes out there right now. If you are looking for a good quality ukulele for peanuts, this is it. It is the best $200 ukulele on the market - buy it while it is still available, my friend - you won't regret it.

"I was looking for a tenor ukulele that wouldn't break the bank, so I checked them out online and saw the KPK selling on another popular website. I liked the way it looked and I liked the fact that it was made with solid wood rather than a laminate. I read all the reviews I could find and listen to the sound samples on youtube. I liked what I had read and also heard, so I decided to take a chance. Keep in mind I own a few high end uks. When I received my KPK (which came fast by the way) I made 2 modifications. 1. I installed new hawaiian strings, 2. I lowered the action a bit. Now, my KPK is my favorite ukulele to play. The sound is nice and clean with very good projection. If your looking to buy a new tenor and you don't want to shell out $500 or more, do yourself a favor....KPK is the way to go!"

"Very nice tenor uke! I just received my Koa Pili Koko Tenor uke yesterday and it is just beautiful. It has a very warm sound and nice sustain.
