Plant Description:
Okra a member of the Malvaceae or mallow family that includes hollyhock, cotton, rose of Sharon and hibiscus. Growing tall, this annual vegetable plant produces large attractive hibiscus-like flowers and lobed heart-shaped hairy leaves with long stems attached to a thick woody stem. The pods develop in the leaf axil and grow rapidly after flowering.
This is not those common varieties availble in market. The fruit is much longer in length with lesser seed and remain tender, even when large.
Growing from seed:
You can start okra seeds either indoors in peat pots under full light or directly in your garden. Plant okra in fertile, well-drained soil in full light about 2 cm deep and 1 m apart. You can soak the seeds overnight in tepid water to help speed up.
