P - 51 Mustang is a fighter aircraft developed at the phenomenal speed of 117 days by the contract that the British Airplane Purchasing Committee had with North American company in April 1940.
Originally it was exported to the UK, but it was adopted also by the American Army Air Corps which was cold at the P - 51 when America entered the war.
D model is a model with the rear fuselage top surface lowered to improve the rear visibility of the B / C type so far, as a rear sliding valve and canopy.
In the initial model, there is no dorsal fin in the front of the vertical stabilizer, but it was attached to improve direction stability from the production stage.
