Product Description

The F-Unit is probably the most recognized diesel Freight Locomotive in North American history. It was found on railroads from East to West and North to South. Eastern railroads favored a ''Single Headlight'' version of the F3, while Western railroads favored a ''Dual Headlight'' version. Built for passenger use on the California Zephyr, the CB&Q''s final batch of F3s were bumped from Zephyr service in the 50''s and found themselves re-geared and repainted into the CB&Q''s freight white paint, although they maintained many of their passenger Freight Locomotive characteristics such as the straight pilot and steam generators.
