DESCRIPTION

Yakitori are bite-size chicken pieces skewered and cooked over charcoal. At its most basic, popular cuts of chicken such as breast and thigh are used. In Japan, the list of different skewers available is long and includes skin, meatballs, wings, tail, cartilage, heart, liver, and gizzard. Salt is used as a basic seasoning, and a finishing brush of tare, a glaze resembling teriyaki sauce, is also common. Yakitori is popular at casual outdoor get together where friends gather around the grill to cook a few skewers at a time while socializing. This yakitori grill is perfect for a gathering or party. The grill consists of two pieces. The main outer piece of the grill has vents to facilitate airflow. A secondary insert sits inside the outer piece of the grill, and has petal-shaped cutouts on the bottom. The petal shaped cutouts serve two purposes: one is to allow air to flow underneath the charcoal to keep it aflame, and the other is to allow ash to fall through as the charcoal is spent. This ensures very hot and even heating, a key to tasty yakitori. The set includes a wire grill grate, a cork trivet to protect the surface upon which the grill is placed, and a pair of tongs.
